QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

From time to time we receive letters with questions about the official position of the SDA Church concerning different issues in nutrition, medical ethics, alternative health practices, job possibilities in the mission field, etc. For many of these questions there are no absolute answers but often a general consensus. Since many of these questions are of general interest we consider it useful to reproduce some of them here. The usually recommended pathway to answer questions is to first ask your local Health Ministries Director, but feel free to mail us your concerns and we will try to do our best to help you.

• Science & Religion - are they compatible? Today we hear so much about faith 
  healing, does prayer really help?

• I’m a nurse and would like to work in the mission field

• Does the General Conference have official statements about the use of meat, coffee, or nutrition in general?

• Does the General Conference have official statements about ethical issues like abortion, homosexuality, smoking, human gene therapy and cloning, care for the dying, environment, AIDS, and alike?

• What is the NEWSTART^® program? Can everybody use it? Is there a copyright associated with it? Can you give more details?

• Ellen G. White said that vegetarian restaurants and small health centers are very effective for the promotion of the gospel and should be established in many places all over the world. How can I participate in this? Are there any guidelines?

• I am a new Health Department leader and wish to learn how to do my work in the best way. Is there any job description? Are there any guidelines?
