Question: Does the General Conference have official statements about the use of meat, coffee, or nutrition in general?

Answer: Yes, there is a GC Nutrition Council composed by 30 members, men and women, who are experts in nutrition, representing the various Divisions worldwide, including Loma Linda and other universities.

This council has elaborated several position statements and guidelines over the years on various issues to assist professionals and lay people in making wise nutritional choices. Here is a list of actually available documents at the General Conference Health Ministries Department:

  • Planning Fellowship Dinners

  • Dietary Fat

  • The Vegetarian Diet

  • The Use of Caffeine

  • How Diet Can Reduce Cancer

  • Diabetes Maturity Onset

  • Trans Fatty Acids: How Safe Are They?

  • First Food for Infants

  • Vitamin B12 for the Vegetarian

  • Meat Analogs as Part of the Vegetarian Lifestyle

  • Herbs and Herbal Teas

  • Phytochemicals: Guardians of Our Health

  • Non-Dairy Beverages

Most of these documents have been translated into different languages and were published in local Church journals. They should be available as pamphlets at your Union’s Health Ministries Department. The English documents are also available on the Internet at: http://www.andrews.edu/NUFS/GCNCindex.html
